Note to self:  do not provide tools to child to draw on oneself when mommy is driving and not paying attention.  Especially on the way to school!

I bought Max a set of connected cards with a dry erase marker to practice writing letters.  I thought, what a great activity and it doesn't appear that you can lose the pieces as so many other "travel" items.  But, I guess I should have known Max would find other creative materials to apply the dry erase marker.
