Max's First Ice Skating Adventure
Today was a fun day. This whole week-end was great fun, but today was really fun. We took Max ice skating for the first time. He has been excited to try ice skating for a while now. In particular he talks about ice skating on Don Mo and Auntie Vickie's pond behind their house. But before we bought him skates we wanted to see if he would actually try skating first...and like the experience. He was also able to try on his friend, Ty's, ice skates on New Year's Eve. He wanted to take them off pretty quickly so I was a bit worried he just liked the idea, not the reality.
We (this was a family adventure--Grandpa Ike, Aunties Vickie and Vivian, Don Mo, Mommy and Daddy) took him to Detroit Skating Club for their open skate today. We thought it would be a half-hour adventure...including skate rental and sign up...but he was ON the ice for an hour and would have stayed longer if the open skate session had not ended. He LOVED it!
He did take about 3 minutes to get into it. As he first got on the ice he did not like how slippery it was, but he was soon over the complaints and onto yelling at me to let him go by himself!
Below is a bit of video. In the first part of the video, really look at his feet. The guy is trying to dance on his skates to one of his favorite songs, Single Ladies by Beyonce. I know it looks like he is simply trying to get his balance, but if you pay close attention the guy is putting some Beyonce moves on to the beat of the song and he is doing very well! In the second part of the video he is trying to skate using the skate walker (no idea what they call it, we told him it was a walker like his Bebe uses) and doing tremendously...or so I think. Don't tell me differently if you think he wasn't doing so well. We all thought he was a superstar today!
At the end of the video he simply sits on the ice for a quick break. He couldn't understand why he couldn't rest on the ice in the middle of the skaters vs getting off the ice for a bit of rest.
