Academy Award

Max and I are back in NYC. We were in MI for almost a month. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the northern midwest, but are quite happy to be back home on the east coast.

During our night time routine, Max put in an academy award winning performance. I had not witnessed this character before. The movie was a re-run, but the subtleties of the character were new and flawfless. He played me for extra books, which I allowed given it was his first night back in NYC. Nothing unusual there. But, then he changed characters. He accepted his "last book" and curled up into me on my lap and started whispering his responses to my questions. "Are you ok Max?". "I'm ok" he breathed. He whispered his responses and was able to delicately squeeze out just a hint of tears with a wordless plea in his eyes begging me to stay with him. Max "no want to sleep by myself" he whispered via a barely audible voice.

I tell you, if I wasn't so tired myself, I may have given in as the effort and performance were spectacular! But, mommy prevailed and Max went to sleep on his own in his own bed on his first night back to NYC.

Oh, how sweet!!! Must have made your heart melt a bit. I wonder how much of it was real and how much was him doing it on purpose to get his way. Guess we really never know exactly. Imagine if he's getting smart enough to put on performances like that to see how far he can get. LOL. I guess all kids learn to do that. Too funny.
