Neurotic Habits

This blog is about Max...but I have to add a quick post about a crazy habit I have here in MI. Here in MI we live on a lake. We have a dock. A giant, really great dock. Not knowing the exact measurements, I'll venture our dock is 30 yards out into the lake, then 40-50 yards across with three pods or landings where you can congregate, dock boats, etc. Anyway, the dock is absolutely gigantic. Because of this enormous dock, the geese on Orchard Lake have made it their home and one of my obsessions this summer has been scaring the geese off the dock at night. I don't hate geese. And, I haven't taken any measures to scare them in an illegal or dangerous to the birdies way...But I absolutely ABHOR their poop! And, they poop a TON. Last night, I couldn't take it anymore...I was trying not to race out there to chase them off, but I had to...I went out at 10:15 pm in my underwear and was yelling at them like a maniac. I had just spent an hour that day sweeping and washing the dock of all their goose poop. And that was third time in 4 days. I counted, in the dark, over 50 geese floating just far enough away that I knew they were going to come back after I went back inside. What the heck! We aren't the only flippin' dock on the lake...go find another home!!!!

Here is a quick photo of just one portion of our dock and how "pooped" it was. Imagine there are TWO more areas, JUST AS BIG for me to sweep off. And these geese poop in fantastic quantities each and every night unless there is regular activity on the dock.

Tonight I went out at 8:15 pm after I put Max to bed and swept the poop again...it wasn't too bad, but it rained today and the rain really cleans the dock well. I stayed out there stalking my dock and yelling at the geese. They were about 50 yards away stalking me...waiting for me to go inside so they could slink back onto the dock. When I came in, I heard them squawking and I swear they were saying nasty things about the crazy lady. They haunt me.

I'm and going over the edge. I hear them out there squawking and I know they are pooping on the dock. ARRRRGGGHHH.

I have to leave this house!

Oh my gosh, probably the funniest post ever. I wish I could have seen you in action. Holy cow, huge deck too. No wonder they've called it their home.
